Impressive relationship
between ICT and
humaN life - Arif Shahriar
Introduction: ICT Stands for "Information and Communication Technology ". ICT refers to technologies that provide access to information through telecommunications. It is similar to Information Technology (IT) but focuses primarily on communication technologies. This includes the Internet, wireless networks, cell phones, and other communication mediums.
E-learning: E-learning is the use
of electronic media and
information and communication
technologies in education
. Bernard Luskin, a pioneer of e-learning
, says that the "e" should be interpreted to mean
" exciting, energetic, enthusiastic, emotional, extended, excellent,
and educational" in addition to "electronic ." E-learning includes numerous types of media for delivering text, audio, images, animation, and streaming video, etc. E-learning can occur in or out of the classroom. It is suited to distance learning and flexible learning. There are many advantages to online and computer-based learning when compared to traditional face-to-face courses and lectures. Classwork can be scheduled around work and family. It reduces
travel time and travel costs
for students. Students can study anywhere they have access to a computer and Internet connection. Students may select
their level of knowledge and interest
. They can develop knowledge of the Internet and computers skills that
will help learners throughout their lives and
careers. Successfully completing online or computer
based courses build self-knowledge
and self-confidence among students
. the instructor and classmates
.However, in addition to traditional learning e-learning can help learners in many ways. We can easily make
two big examples of it by referring to Ayman Sadiq’s “10 Minute School”
or Salman Amin
Khan’s “Khan Academy”!
E-governance: Electronic
governance involves the use
of ICT and its
numerous applications by the government for the provision of informations and e-services to the citizens of the country. Broadly speaking, e-governance can be
referred to as the uses and
applications of ICT in public administration
to conduct processes to effectively manage data
and information to enhance
public service delivery for the empowerment of the citizens. Digital developments of recent years like online
services, big data, social media
, mobile apps, cloud computing, etc. now influence people and the government tremendously.
The use of e-governance can make public
administration fast and effective, provide better services
, and respond to the
demands of transparency and accountability. It can help the government
to go green
by effective management of natural resources aiding sustainability to the environment. E-governance stimulates economic growth and
promotes social inclusion of disabled and vulnerable
sections of society. E-governance can provide benefits in the form of
new employment, better health, better education, knowledge sharing, skills developments, and capacity
building for sustainable development. Quick and
fast
e-services eliminate middlemen and save both time and
money. Without such online services, our cities and
towns would have turned into more difficult places to live
and the transport
services would have been impossible
to manage. The government of Bangladesh
has been implementing diverse programs to establish ‘Digital Bangladesh’ where the aim
is to make
public services more prompt, cheaper and hassle-free
through implementing e-service programs based on
ICT.
E-commerce: E-commerce
is a commercial transaction which is happened over the internet. Online stores like Amazon, Flipkart, Shopify,
Myntra, eBay, Quikr, Olx are examples of E-commerce
websites. In Bangladesh
Rokomari, Daraz, Ajkerdeal, Othoba, Chaldal, etc. are very popular
among the Bangladeshi online customers
.
Tele-medicine:
Bangladeshi citizens can take health suggestions for free now from doctors working in government health centers. For this, a mobile phone has been given to each district and sub-district hospital of Bangladesh. The numbers of these mobile phones have
been publicized locally. These numbers are also given
on the website of Directorate General of Health Services
(www.dghs.gov.bd) . Doctors receive calls in these numbers 24 hours. Local people can receive free health suggestions by calling these numbers
without the need for coming to hospitals in person
. Busy persons can also
take medical help at
the beginning of any disease. The risk of complications of diseases is lessened this way. Many hospitals are trying to involve in this new technology to be
more effective.
Social media: Social media is any website that allows social interaction. Social media
is growing rapidly throughout the world. More adults and
teenagers are joining sites such as Facebook
, Instagram, MySpace, and Twitter to interact with friends, family, and strangers. The introduction
of social media has changed
the world in
many ways. It
affects each individual in different ways. Today it can be used as a very helpful
tool in changing
a person’s life, but
at the same time
cause such conflicts which can negatively
impact a person. While there are some negatives
associated with social
media, the positives
in communication all around, has made the world
stronger and a better place to live
in. Social media
has many positive effects on the society
by the way.

ICT in everyday life:
Information and Communication Technology has an important role in
the world since
we are now in the information age era
. Nowadays ICT cannot
be separated with our daily
needs. ICT has a great impact
in our daily lives. For example
, we can read our
local newspaper using the online newspaper. Another example is we still can
get connected with our family
, relatives or colleagues even if
we are abroad by using the electronic mail , yahoo messenger
, call conference , or video conference . Digital computer and networking has changed our economy
concept to the economy with no
boundary in time and space because of ICT.
It brings a
lot of advantages for economic development enabling millions of transactions to happen
in an easy
and fast way
. ICT is one of the
economic development pillars to gain
national competitive advantages. It can improve the quality of human life because
it can be used as
a learning and education media, the mass communication
media in promoting and campaigning
practical and important issues, such as the health and social
area. It provides wider knowledge and can
help in gaining
and accessing informations. ICT has become an integral part of
everyday life for
many people. It increases its importance in people’s lives and
it is expected that this trend will continue, to the extent that
ICT literacy will become
a functional requirement for people’s
work, social, and personal lives. The use of ICT in education add value in
teaching and learning, by enhancing
the effectiveness of learning, or by adding a
dimension to learning that was not previously available. ICT may
also, be a significant motivational factor in students’
learning, and can
support students’ engagement with collaborative learning. ICT is basically our society’s efforts to teach its
current and emerging citizens valuable knowledge and skills
around computing and communications
devices, software that operates them, applications that run
on them and
systems that are built
with them.
Conclusion:
As a matter of fact
, we are living in
a constantly evolving digital world. ICT has
an impact on nearly every aspect of our lives –
from working to socializing, learning to playing. The digital age has
transformed the way
young people communicate
, network, seek help
, access information and learn. We must
recognize those young people are now an online population and have access through a variety of means
such as computers, TV and mobile phones.
